Big Grove Township occupies the 6-mile (9.7 km) square in the southwest corner of Kendall County, Illinois.
It is located at 41.518886 N, -88.551058 W. According to the United States Census Bureau, Big Grove Township covers an area of 35.73 square miles (92.5 km2); of this, 35.72 square miles (92.5 km2) (99.98 percent) is land and 0.01 square miles (0.026 km2) (0.02 percent) is water. Its population in the 2000 Census was 1,526. It has 558 housing units. It contains Lisbon and Newark.
Big Grove Township was named after the large grove of hardwoods that dominated the prairies in the township when the first settlers arrived.
U.S. Route 52 crosses the township east to west.
Government
The township is governed by an elected Town Board of a Supervisor and four Trustees. The Township also has an elected Assessor, Clerk, and Highway Commissioner.
